Cash games pay out to roughly half the field, so a larger share is reasonable. Tournaments pay out to about 20% of the field with most of the prize pool at the top, so losing streaks are long and a small share keeps you in the game. These are rules of thumb, not financial advice. Only play with money you can afford to lose.

Why cash games and tournaments get different limits

Cash games such as 50/50s and double-ups pay roughly half the field a fixed amount, so results swing less from day to day. Tournaments (GPPs) pay a small share of the field and put most of the prize pool at the very top, which means long losing streaks even for winning players.

That's why long-time players commonly keep 5–10% of their bankroll in play per day in cash games and 1–3% in tournaments. Your bankroll should be money set aside for DFS, separate from anything you need.

Questions

How much of my bankroll should I play each day?

A common guideline is 5–10% per day for cash games and 1–3% for tournaments. Lower is safer. If losing your whole bankroll would hurt, it's too big.

What's the difference between cash games and GPPs?

Cash games (50/50s, double-ups, head-to-heads) pay about half the field. GPPs, or guaranteed prize pools, are tournaments that pay a smaller share with large top prizes.
