Alternatives to DraftKings

DraftKings doesn't take paid entries in Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington or some Louisiana parishes. It is live in California and Texas, but a July 2026 federal ruling left open an injunction against its paid contests in California, where the attorney general has called both draft-style and pick'em contests illegal. Others simply want pick'em or a different kind of draft.

Our picks, and who each one suits

  1. FanDuel

FanDuel runs the same core formats (full-roster, single-game, snake draft and best ball contests), and unlike DraftKings it takes paid entries in Oregon; it doesn't in Connecticut.

  2. Yahoo Daily Fantasy

Yahoo runs salary-cap daily contests and best ball, and its terms don't exclude California, Oregon or Texas, though they do exclude Connecticut, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine and Michigan.

  3. Underdog

Underdog suits you if you want best ball tournaments from $3 to $1,000 per entry or pick'em instead of salary cap; its California page lists Predictions, Pick'em and Drafts.

  4. PrizePicks

PrizePicks offers peer-to-peer pick'em with 2 to 6 athletes per lineup, and its eligibility page includes California, Oregon and Texas at 18+.

  5. Sleeper

Sleeper's peer-to-peer Player Picks is listed in 30 states plus DC on iOS, including California, Oregon and Texas, next to its free season-long leagues.

  6. FantasySpin

FantasySpin fills your lineup with spins and up to 6 locks instead of a salary cap, with contests from $1 in 28 states plus DC, including California, Oregon and Texas.
